​Hello, Welcome to 4th grade ELA. Students will learn how to write a non-fiction piece by creating a newsletter. By reading about seasons and how they are created, and using the knowledge they know to format their newsletters. As they gain knowledge on the topic through research, students will be able to understand the format and word choices needed to be able to create a clear understanding of the topic.
Objectives of the lesson:

Students will be able to write a research paper and use the correct format.

Students will be able to create an article/newsletter through a Word document.
Task:
Students will use a lab stimulation to understand the ways seasons are created. The article students will read: https://kids.britannica.com/kids/article/season/399589 to learn about the seasons. Students in groups will then create a newsletter in their groups based on a section of the article. Students will use a word document to create a newsletter. https://www.edrawmax.com/newsletter/how-to-make-a-newsletter-in-word/ Will be used as a step guide to creating a newsletter. Students will be present in groups.
Process:
Students will be presented before the lesson starts https://www.orange.k12.nj.us/cms/lib/NJ01000601/Centricity/Domain/434/Research_Paper_5-8.ppt. This will be an introduction to research papers. The students will then read the article in popcorn style during class. The next day students will draft their newspapers. Then by end of the week, they should publish their newsletter.

Evaluation:
Students will be assessed by the teacher on the proper use of vocabulary, and information. The use of information and creating sentence structures. Students will be assessed on their knowledge, spelling, definitions, and pronunciation.
